Hopes to raise more than $4,000
WellSpan has joined #GivingTuesday, a nationwide effort to harness the collective power of giving. The movement aims to transform the way people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.
Coinciding with Thanksgiving and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday will inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities and give back to the charities and causes they support.
This year #GivingTuesday takes place on Tuesday, Dec. 3 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
It seeks to harness the power of social media to create a national moment around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are synonymous with holiday shopping.
As a non-profit, WellSpan Health will be encouraging donations to York Health Foundation and Gettysburg Hospital Foundation to support patients in need and to provide access to necessary health and wellness services.
Theresa Law, executive director of philanthropy, said, “This is a unique opportunity for WellSpan to participate in a national initiative to channel the generous spirit of the holiday season to help our patients in need.
"Tax-deductible donations can be made to support specific programs like the Cancer Patient Help Fund, pediatric rooms in our emergency departments or to be used where the need is greatest.”
WellSpan hopes to double the amount it raised over last year’s participation in #GivingTuesday by raising in excess of $4,000.
As part of its participation, WellSpan will use social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter to provide giving tips, encourage donations and generate excitement about this unique effort.
“As an organization committed to the communities we serve, we see this as an opportunity to remember that the holiday season is about community and caring for those in need,” said Law.
