The pre-op department of WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital is among just five departments across the country to earn a prestigious award from a national nursing certification board.
The American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification (ABPANC) recognized the York County hospital with its 2019 Certification Achievement Award for having 100 percent of eligible perianesthesia nurses earn the CPAN and/or CAPA certification. These nurses are certified in their perianesthesia specialty as either a Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) or a Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA).

The certification process for each nurse requires detailed criteria involving clinical experience, as well as passing a written exam.
