WellSpan President Bruce Bartels and York City Mayor Kim Bracey celebrate the announcement of WellSpan’s $600,000 donation to the city to fund the York City Police Training Center. |
WellSpan announced a partnership with the City of York last week that will establish a WellSpan Police Training Center, a facility that will enhance the skills and competencies of area police officers as well as provide secure storage of evidence for crime investigations.
A $600,000 donation by WellSpan will fund the center, which will be located on the fourth floor of the York City Police Station, 50 W. King St.
Integral to the accreditation of the York City Police Department, the WellSpan Police Training Center will provide a space for officers across the county to engage in specialized training. It also will create a safer community for residents of York City and across the county.
“We recognize how important the City of York is to our communities across the county,” said Bruce Bartels, president of WellSpan. “We have been pleased to locate several WellSpan services, programs and offices in the city over the years. We appreciate the importance of creating a safe environment for all who live, work and play in these neighborhoods.
“We are pleased to partner with Mayor Kim Bracey, City Police Chief Wes Kahley and other city leaders to support the fine work of police officers across the county.”
WellSpan and the City of York have collaborated on numerous initiatives that have enhanced the quality of living for area residents over the years. These include the purchase of equipment and the enhancement of police services in the city’s South George Street neighborhood.
“I am grateful to WellSpan for its investment in the safety of our community by providing the police department an opportunity to deliver training in a state-of-theart facility to first responders within and beyond the city,” stated Mayor Bracey.
This partnership is another example of how WellSpan, as part of its non-profit, community-based mission, engages in partnerships as a means to make York and Adams counties great places to live, work and play. In 2007, WellSpan donated $30,000 to the Borough of Gettysburg to purchase a police cruiser.
As a neighbor, it’s important to WellSpan to do its part, especially in supporting first responders.
