The hospital is the only one in central Pennsylvania to be honored
WellSpan York Hospital announced today that it is one of only 12 acute care hospitals in the country to earn a prestigious award for its respiratory therapy program.
The American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) has named the hospital an Apex Recognition Award winner for 2019-20. The award recognizes acute care hospitals that promote patient safety and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in respiratory care.
“Our respiratory therapists are devoted to delivering the highest level of care and support to our patients, every day,” said Keith Noll, senior vice president, WellSpan Health, and president, WellSpan York Hospital. “This national recognition is a testament to their skills and dedication, and it reflects the exceptional quality of care that our patients have come to expect from us.”
The Apex Recognition Award requires that all respiratory therapists employed by the hospital to deliver bedside respiratory care be certified or registered as a respiratory therapist. To earn those credentials respiratory therapists undergo rigorous examination and clinical simulations. WellSpan York Hospital has 115 respiratory therapists, and all have fulfilled these requirements.
The award distinguishes WellSpan York Hospital’s commitment to excellence in professional development, evidence-based care, and patient safety as well as patient satisfaction and quality improvement.
